BMW Reportedly Replacing the X4 with the X2

BMW is reportedly planning to phase out the X4, a model that has been part of the company's portfolio for almost a decade. As a result, the all-new X2 has undergone significant changes and now resembles a smaller version of the X4.

The X4, a model that BMW has been selling since 2014, is being retired. In its place, BMW has introduced the X2, which features a tilted rear window and sloping roofline that give it a striking resemblance to the X4. The X2 also comes equipped with the xDrive all-wheel drive system as standard in the United States.

The 2024 BMW X2 has grown in size compared to its predecessor. It is now longer, wider, and taller, providing more space for passengers and a larger cargo area. The X2's dimensions bring it closer in size to the X4, making it a suitable replacement for the retiring model.

In addition to its larger proportions, the X2 also offers new high-end equipment, suggesting that BMW is aiming to fill the gap that will be left by the X4. It is clear that BMW is not planning to release a next-generation X4 with an internal combustion engine, indicating that the future of the model may be electric.

BMW has prepared the X2 for its expanded role in the market by increasing its price. The new model starts at $42,995, which is $5,500 more expensive than its predecessor.

Furthermore, the X2 already has an electric variant called the iX2 xDrive30, which is powered by two electric motors and offers impressive performance and range. With the potential retirement of the X4, the X2 is ready to step up and fill the void, although it remains to be seen if an M version of the X2 will be powerful enough to match the X4 M's performance.
