BYD, a Chinese automaker, is set to release two new electric vehicle (EV) models in Japan by the end of 2023. The models include the Dolphine hatchback and Seal sedan. However, it remains unclear if all three EV models will be showcased at the upcoming show in late October. BYD Auto Japan has not provided any comments regarding this matter.

In comparison to the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, the number of international car brands has decreased. Previously, the show featured four international brands, including Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Renault, and Alpine.

While motor shows around the world are experiencing a decline in popularity and participation, the organizers of the Japan Mobility Show are aiming to transform it into a global platform. Jun Nagata, head of the show's organizing committee, expressed their intention to make the event a global one, rather than just a domestic affair. This move is supported by Masami Tanaka, an association official in charge of next-generation mobility.

According to Tanaka, nearly 20 foreign companies are participating in the show, with many of them being parts manufacturers such as Valeo, Bosch, and Hyundai Mobis. The show has also made efforts to attract Chinese companies, resulting in the participation of four Chinese parts makers, including Zhejiang Sanhua Automotive Components Co.

Furthermore, the event has seen a significant increase in participation, with over 400 companies, including startups, taking part in the rebranded Japan Mobility Show. This is a record high compared to the 192 companies that participated in the 2019 show. Among the participating companies, around 30 to 40 percent are from the automotive sector, while the remaining 60 percent represent industries such as IT, finance, energy, tourism, and education.

In addition to the exhibition, the Japan Mobility Show will also feature the H2 Energy Festival, which includes 30 live music and standup comedy acts. This indoor entertainment stage is entirely powered by hydrogen, similar to features found at the CES and the South by Southwest music and arts festivals.

Further details about the event will be revealed in September, and official tickets for the Japan Mobility Show are now available for purchase. The organizers, including Nagata and association Chairman Akio Toyoda, are determined to drive Japan's future with automobile and mobility technologies.
