Cause of death for Sara Sharif remains unknown, inquest reveals

An inquest has heard that the cause of death of a 10-year-old girl, whose body was found in her Surrey home, has not yet been determined. The body of Sara Sharif was discovered at a property in Woking after her father, Urfan Sharif, called the police from Pakistan on August 10. Although the precise cause of death is still unknown, it is believed to be unnatural.

The opening of the inquest at Surrey Coroner's Court confirmed that Sara was born in Slough, Berkshire, on January 11, 2013. Coroner Simon Wickens adjourned the proceedings until February 29, 2024, to allow Surrey Police to conduct their investigations. He expressed his sincere condolences to all those affected by Sara's short life.

Police suspect that Sara's father, Urfan Sharif, his partner Beinash Batool, and his brother Faisal Malik fled to Islamabad the day before Sara's body was found. This has led to a large-scale manhunt involving detectives from both countries. Surrey Police are appealing for information to help them understand Sara's lifestyle prior to her death. The investigation has been expanded after the post-mortem examination revealed that Sara had suffered multiple and extensive injuries over an extended period of time.

Sara's mother, Olga Sharif, is receiving support from specialist officers during this difficult time.
