Cheaper Electric SUV to Compete with MG4

Smart is expanding its all-electric small SUV lineup with a more affordable variant called the Smart #1 Pro. The Pro trim level, which is already available in Germany, will soon be coming to the UK. While pricing for the Pro variant in the UK hasn't been announced yet, it is expected to be priced similarly to the current cheapest Smart in the range, the #1 Pro+, which costs just over £32,000 in Germany.

The Smart #1 is the first car developed under Daimler-Geely ownership and signifies Smart's transition to becoming an all-electric car maker. Previous all-electric models from Smart include the EQ ForTwo and EQ ForFour.

The Smart #1 lineup currently offers four trim levels. The range starts with the Pro+ variant, followed by the Premium variant priced at £38,950, which adds larger wheels and a panoramic roof. The Launch Edition, limited to 100 examples in the UK, features a bespoke paint finish and is priced at £39,450. At the top of the range is the performance-focused Brabus variant, starting from £43,450.

All #1 models are equipped with a 62kWh battery, except for the dual-motor Brabus variant. The Pro variant, however, comes with a smaller 47kWh battery, resulting in a maximum range of 192 miles. The charging speed for the Pro also drops from 150kW to 130kW, although Smart claims it takes under 30 minutes for a full recharge.

The Smart #1 Pro is expected to be available in the UK market in spring 2024. In the meantime, if you're interested in electric SUVs, be sure to check out the best electric SUVs currently on sale.
