Chevy Bolt Owners Unhappy with GM's $1,400 Payment
【Summary】GM is offering Chevy Bolt owners a $1,400 payment in exchange for fitting their vehicles with diagnostic software to determine if the battery needs replacement. This comes after a recall due to defective battery packs that could cause fires. GM chose to use software instead of replacing the packs in 2020-2022 models.
General Motors is offering a payment of $1,400 to certain owners of the 2020-2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV. However, there is a catch.
According to a report by Electrek, this offer is being made by the automaker in anticipation of a potential class action lawsuit. In order to receive the payment, customers must have their vehicles fitted with diagnostic software. General Motors claims that this software will determine whether the battery needs to be replaced.
This offer is related to the recall that affected the Bolt EV. The recall was issued after it was discovered that the battery packs, which were sourced from LG, were defective and could potentially cause fires. In response, General Motors decided to halt production of the Bolt and began searching for a solution. The company pledged to replace the battery packs in the affected vehicles.
However, Chevrolet made the decision not to replace the battery packs in the 2020-2022 models. Instead, they opted to install software in the vehicles.
