Local people in northern Pakistan have carried out a remarkable rescue operation, saving all eight passengers from a cable car. The incident occurred when one of the cables snapped while the chairlift was transporting six children and two adults to school in Battagram. The passengers were left dangling 1,200 meters above a ravine, fearing for their lives. Two children were rescued by helicopter before nightfall, but the air rescue had to be called off. However, locals continued their efforts and managed to pull the remaining passengers to safety using a makeshift chairlift.

Senator Sarfraz Bugti expressed gratitude for the successful conclusion of the rescue operation and praised the armed forces personnel, administration, and locals for their selflessness and determination. The UK's high commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, also expressed relief that all those involved in the cable car incident were safely back on the ground and thanked everyone who worked tirelessly to make it happen.

A video clip of the first child being rescued showed him hanging from a helicopter, gripping a safety rope tightly while strapped in a harness. The child was thousands of feet above the ground. Gulfaraz, one of the passengers on the chairlift, revealed that among the group were six schoolchildren aged between 10 and 16. He also mentioned that one of the wires broke at 7am, followed by another breakdown. Gulfaraz pleaded for help, stating that they didn't even have drinking water in the chairlift. Additionally, a 16-year-old with a heart condition had been unconscious for three hours.
