A Chinese company that specializes in producing electric vehicles is set to open a service center in Bishkek, according to reports. The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Akylbek Japarov, recently met with Ivan Cao, Deputy Chairman of the electric vehicles production company BYD Co Ltd, during a working trip to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. The meeting focused on discussing cooperation in the production and sale of electric vehicles, as well as gas stations and charging systems.

During the meeting, Japarov expressed the readiness of the Cabinet of Ministers to adopt a state incentive program to encourage the use of electric vehicles and create favorable conditions for the installation of charging stations across the country. In response, Cao revealed that BYD Co Ltd plans to open a service center in Bishkek by the fourth quarter of 2023 and expressed their willingness to expand cooperation.

In addition to the meeting with BYD Co Ltd, Japarov also had a meeting with Zhu Huazhong, the chairman of the board of the Chongqing Changan Automobile Company Limited, another Chinese company that produces electric vehicles. The parties agreed to establish direct contacts with representatives of state bodies in the Kyrgyz Republic and senior officials of the Chinese automaker to initiate cooperation.

Japarov instructed Minister of Economy and Commerce Daniyar Amangeldiev to begin the negotiation process with representatives of the Chongqing Changan Automobile Company Limited and organize a mutual visit of the company's chairman to Kyrgyzstan. This move aligns with the country's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality, as the construction and launch of a plant for the production of chargers and electric vehicles will facilitate an accelerated transition from combustion engine cars to environmentally friendly electric vehicles.

The chairman of the Chongqing Changan Automobile Company Limited expressed his readiness for cooperation and highlighted the company's expertise in this field, suggesting that their involvement could help turn Bishkek into a "green city". These developments indicate a growing interest in electric vehicles in Kyrgyzstan and a commitment to sustainable transportation options.
