Coventry: Fatalities reported as authorities probe 'string of accidents' in urban area

Tragedy struck in Coventry on Sunday as two people lost their lives in a series of collisions. West Midlands Police responded to reports of serious injuries to two pedestrians and a cyclist on Gosford Street at around 8am. Sadly, a 44-year-old pedestrian and a cyclist on Woodway Lane succumbed to their injuries. Another pedestrian sustained injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

The police deployed their drones team and dog unit to assist in the search for the suspect. It was reported that a man fled the scene after a car collided with a house on Beckbury Road. A 33-year-old man was later found on the road at around 9am and is currently being questioned in relation to the collisions.

As the investigation into the circumstances of the collisions continues, the police have closed off Gosford Street, Woodway Lane, and the surrounding areas. Superintendent Ronan Tyrer, from Coventry Local Policing Area, expressed sympathy for the families affected during this devastating time. He also mentioned that the investigations are still in their early stages, and the closure of certain roads will be necessary for a significant period of time.

The police have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in their investigation. If you have any relevant information, please get in touch with the authorities.
