Edinburgh venue cancels comedy show by Graham Linehan

Controversial writer Graham Linehan, known for creating the television shows Father Ted, Black Books, and The IT Crowd, has been an outspoken critic of the trans rights movement. However, his scheduled stand-up comedy show at Leith Arches in Edinburgh was recently cancelled. Comedy Unleashed, the organizers of the show, found an alternative venue but later announced on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that the replacement venue had also cancelled. Despite this setback, Comedy Unleashed stated that the show would still go ahead at a new location, with ticket holders being informed via email.

Linehan expressed his disappointment about the cancellation, stating that he had initially been excited about the sold-out show. He also mentioned that he has grown accustomed to facing such challenges. Linehan believes that the cancellation draws attention to the fact that he perceives a group of highly ideological cultists to have taken over institutions in society. He further stated that if Leith Arches does not apologize and reinstate the gig, he may consider taking legal action.

In response to the controversy, Leith Arches explained that they were not aware of the show's lineup in advance and decided to cancel it as it did not align with their inclusive values. The venue emphasized its close relationship with the LGBT+ community and expressed concerns about the potential negative impact hosting the show could have on future bookings.
