A recent study conducted by US research firm JD Power, called the Tech Experience Index, has revealed some interesting findings regarding advanced vehicle technology. The study aimed to assess owner experiences with these technologies as they are introduced to the market, providing an early measure of any potential problems.
According to the JD Power report, out of the 21 advanced features examined, 17 of them had more problems per 100 vehicles on electric cars compared to petrol models. This finding is consistent with the results of the JD Power 2023 Initial Quality Study, which also showed that electric vehicles (excluding Tesla) had 46% more total vehicle problems and lower satisfaction levels among owners compared to petrol vehicles.
Kathleen Rizk, senior director of user experience benchmarking and technology at JD Power, emphasized the importance of innovation through a strong advanced tech strategy, particularly for vehicle manufacturers aiming to establish their reputation in the electric vehicle space. Rizk stated that the industry perception is that electric vehicles should offer a wide range of advanced technologies to compete with high-tech companies like Tesla.
Rizk also highlighted the significance of flawless execution and ensuring a consistent user experience for both tech-savvy individuals and those who are not as familiar with advanced technologies. This will be a determining factor for success in the electric vehicle market.
