Electric four-door GT ushers in Jaguar's new era

Jaguar is gearing up for its all-electric future with the introduction of a £100,000 four-door GT. Our exclusive image offers a glimpse into what we can expect from this exciting new model. The rear image showcases a departure from the current design direction seen on Jaguar's lineup, featuring distinct squared-off angles and a wide stance. The design elements, as hinted by Jaguar in a teaser image, are expected to combine with solid surfacing and advanced aerodynamic treatment, including a prominent diffuser to enhance range. The GT's look will be further enhanced by razor-thin tail-lights.

Newly appointed JLR boss Adrian Mardell expressed a clear desire to take Jaguar in a fresh direction with a new visual identity that captures the brand's emotion. Jaguar's team of designers presented various design options to key stakeholders, and the image we see here represents the first interpretation of a new design language that received unanimous approval and is described by Mardell as "jaw dropping."

The rapid development process, known as Project Renaissance, was initiated by JLR's Chief Creative Officer, Gerry McGovern. Three teams within JLR's design studio were given a common brief to create a family of three distinct vehicle types, resulting in 18 clay-model proposals in just three months. According to sources, several prototypes of the new GT are expected to undergo road testing by the end of the year, with an official unveiling planned for April or May 2024 and sales scheduled for 2025.

Moreover, the design direction of the GT also provides a glimpse into what's in store for the two new crossovers that will complete Jaguar's lineup. Mardell emphasizes the importance of having a cohesive family look across the range. As part of JLR's Reimagine strategy, the British brand is undergoing a complete reboot and will be positioned alongside Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery as one of JLR's four brand pillars. The GT, along with the other two cars in the lineup, will be produced at the Solihull plant, which will also manufacture the all-electric Range Rover.

The GT is set to become the most powerful Jaguar production car ever made, surpassing the brand's existing EV, the I-Pace, in terms of range and charging capacity. Although specific motor outputs and performance figures have not been released, Jaguar claims the new model will offer up to 700km (435 miles) of range and be capable of adding approximately 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes of rapid charging.
