Electric motorbike runs on power tool batteries
【Summary】EGO POWER has released an electric mini bike that runs on their lithium-ion battery packs. The bike has a top speed of 28 mph and a maximum range of 18 miles. It is designed for off-road use and is not street legal. The price and release date of the mini bike have not been announced yet.
EGO POWER is a well-known company for its electric lawn care tools, including mowers, string trimmers, and chain saws. However, they have recently introduced something more exciting - an electric mini bike. The EGO POWER+ Mini Bike utilizes the company's interchangeable lithium-ion battery packs, allowing you to use the same batteries that power your leaf blower to ride this mini bike.
It's important to note that this mini bike is not street legal, so it's recommended to stick to dirt trails and off-road riding areas. This limitation is probably for the best, considering its top speed of 28 mph (45 km/h), which would make it difficult to keep up with traffic on most roads.
Rather than commuting to work, riders are more likely to enjoy slinging dirt around with the mini bike's cute little off-road tires.
The mini bike is equipped with a pair of 56V 7.5Ah ARC Lithium batteries from EGO, providing a maximum range of up to 18 miles (29 km) with 840 Wh of battery capacity. It offers three riding modes - Eco, Normal, and Sport. The 18-mile range is most likely measured in Eco mode. Additionally, there is a reverse mode, which is useful for maneuvering such a large ride.
Although it may appear like a toy with its small proportions, the mini bike seems to be well-equipped. It features full suspension and hydraulic brakes, offering a ride that handles decently, considering its parts are rearranged from lawn mowers into a motorcycle format.
The power of the rear hub motor is still unknown, but reaching 28 mph (45 km/h) on something the size of a rocking horse must feel incredibly fast.
As for the price and availability of this mini bike, there is currently no concrete information. EGO only mentions that it will be available "soon" without specifying a date. Additionally, there are no official images of the mini bike yet, so all we have are mockups to give us an idea of its appearance on a trail.
While this may not be the first electric mini bike we've seen, it is the first to use lawn mower batteries as its power source. Other electric mini bikes have been designed for road use, such as Tromox's small electric motorcycles and CSC's City Slicker. Even Honda has shown interest in this market, with a patent for a little electric Grom motorcycle.
An off-road mini bike like the EGO mini bike can provide a lot of fun, especially for those who have land to explore. With swappable batteries, the 18-mile range can be extended as far as you desire.
Just be sure not to use up all your battery packs at once on the same day you need to mow your lawn, or you'll have a chore left on your Honey-Do list.
