Electric Orca Delivery Begins
【Summary】Taiga Motors has started delivering a more affordable version of its electric personal watercraft (PWC), the Orca. The initial model, priced at $26,500, was considered expensive compared to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) PWCs. However, the new Orca Performance is now available for $19,490, making it more accessible. Both models have a 24kWh battery pack, 160 horsepower electric motor, and offer about 2 hours of riding on a single charge. The Performance model can be charged in 3.
Last July, Taiga Motors introduced its first electric personal watercraft (PWC), the Orca. The initial model, called the "Carbon," had a price tag of $26,500 and featured a carbon fiber shell, which not only reduced weight but also enhanced the design.
While the Orca Carbon was an intriguing product, its high price was a deterrent for many buyers, especially considering that traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) PWCs typically cost around $15,000. Choosing the Orca over an ICE-powered PWC meant paying a significant premium.
However, the Orca was the first electric PWC to hit the market, and like the original Tesla Roadster, some buyers were willing to pay the premium to own the first of its kind. Now, Taiga is making the Orca more affordable.
As planned, Taiga is now offering the Orca Performance model at a price of $19,490. The Performance and Carbon models have the same propulsion system, featuring a 24kWh battery pack and a 160 horsepower electric motor. This allows the Orca to provide approximately 2 hours of riding time on a single charge, covering a distance of about 27 miles.
When the battery is depleted, the Orca comes with a 6.6kW onboard charger, enabling a charge time of three and a half hours. For an additional $650, customers can opt for the onboard CCS charging port, which reduces the zero to eighty percent charge time to just forty minutes.
In addition to the Performance model, Taiga has plans to release a Sport variant with a lower output of 90 horsepower. The Sport model will start at $17,490.
Despite the introduction of the Performance and Sport models, Taiga is still producing the Carbon model. Customers who choose the Carbon model can also opt for the fast charge package and select from different seat and body colors at no extra cost.
