Electric Recon: Embodying the Off-Road Essence of Jeep Wrangler
【Summary】Jeep is introducing the off-road electric SUV, the Recon, inspired by the iconic Wrangler. As part of Jeep's transition to an all-electric brand, the Recon will be one of three new electric models coming to the market. It will have removable doors and windows, and is positioned as a rugged and capable vehicle. The Recon will have nearly 600 hp and a range of around 373 miles. Jeep aims to be a leader in electrification globally and maintain its off-road capabilities.
Jeep is gearing up for an electric future with the highly anticipated release of the Jeep Recon. Inspired by the iconic Jeep Wrangler, the Recon will be a key player as the American automaker transitions to electric vehicles. As part of parent company Stellantis' Dare Forward 2030 strategy, Jeep plans to become an all-electric brand in Europe, with 50% of its sales in the US being electric by the end of the decade.
Jeep recently unveiled three new all-electric models that will soon hit the market: the Avenger, Recon, and Wagoneer S. The Avenger, which won Europe's Car of the Year award, was released earlier this year but is not yet available in the US. The Recon and Wagoneer S will be Jeep's first 100% electric vehicles in the US, scheduled for production next year.
The 2024 Recon Moab 4xe, likely the highest trim level, was leaked in images from a dealer event held in Las Vegas earlier this year. The Recon is described as a "rugged and capable fully electric SUV," taking inspiration from the Jeep Wrangler. It will offer features such as removable doors and windows.
The Jeep Recon will be positioned alongside the off-road Wrangler in the lineup, according to Antonella Bruno, Head of Jeep Europe. However, Bruno noted that the Recon will have its own unique identity and will cater to a different market segment. She described it as a "white-space car," emphasizing its distinctiveness and capabilities.
The electric SUV is expected to have nearly 600 horsepower and a range of approximately 373 miles, making it a powerful and long-lasting vehicle. Jeep aims to be the leader in 4x4 electrification globally, as stated by Bruno.
Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep North America, highlighted the Recon's off-road capabilities, stating that it can conquer the challenging Rubicon Trail and still have enough range to return to town and recharge. Jeep's commitment to building vehicles suitable for any terrain remains strong.
Following the release of the Recon, Jeep will introduce the Wagoneer S, a premium midsize electric SUV. This fully loaded vehicle will boast 600 horsepower and a range of up to 400 miles, designed to complete a trip from New York City to Toronto on a single charge. The Wagoneer S is expected to be available next year, alongside the Recon.
