Electric Recon: The Off-Road Wrangler's Spirited Companion
【Summary】Jeep is set to release the electric Recon, inspired by the Wrangler, as part of its transition to an electric future. Alongside the Recon, Jeep also plans to release the Avenger and Wagoneer S as part of its all-electric lineup. The Recon will have removable doors and windows and will sit in a lower segment to the Wrangler. It is expected to have nearly 600 hp and around 373 miles of range.
Jeep is set to introduce the highly anticipated electric off-road vehicle, the Jeep Recon. Inspired by the iconic Jeep Wrangler, the Recon will play a significant role as the American automaker transitions to an electric future.
As part of Stellantis' Dare Forward 2030 strategy, Jeep aims to become an all-electric brand in Europe, with 50% of its sales being electric vehicles in the US by the end of the decade.
Jeep recently unveiled three new all-electric models, including the Avenger, Recon, and Wagoneer S. The Jeep Avenger, the brand's first electric vehicle, was introduced in Europe earlier this year and received the prestigious Car of the Year award.
While the Avenger is not available for sale in the US, the Recon and Wagoneer S will be Jeep's first 100% electric vehicles in the country, scheduled for production next year.
The 2024 Recon Moab 4xe, likely the highest trim level, was leaked in images from a dealer event held in Las Vegas earlier this year. The Recon is described as a rugged and capable fully electric SUV, drawing inspiration from the Jeep Wrangler and featuring options like removable doors and windows.
The head of Jeep Europe, Antonella Bruno, confirmed that the Recon will be positioned alongside the Wrangler but will cater to a different market segment. Bruno described the Recon as a unique and capable car that will sit in a lower part of the market compared to the Wrangler.
According to Autocar, the electric SUV will offer nearly 600 horsepower and a range of approximately 373 miles. The Recon will be available in the UK market.
Jeep aims to be the leader in 4x4 electrification globally, as stated by Bruno. In the US, Jeep plans to continue its legacy of building vehicles designed for any terrain.
Jim Morrison, head of Jeep North America, emphasized the capability of the new electric Jeep Recon, stating that it can conquer the challenging Rubicon Trail and still have enough range to return to town and recharge.
The next electric Jeep to be released will be the Wagoneer S, a premium midsize electric SUV. Jeep claims that the electric Wagoneer will offer 600 horsepower and a range of up to 400 miles, making it suitable for a trip from New York City to Toronto on a single charge. The Wagoneer S is expected to be available next year, alongside the Recon.
