Electric truck patent reveals upcoming EV

A new electric pickup truck is set to be released by BYD by the end of the year, according to a leaked patent. This design comes as BYD continues to expand its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) market, with the company recently achieving record sales of 151,193 fully electric vehicles in September. In fact, BYD is now just a few thousand electric models away from surpassing Tesla as the top-selling EV maker. While Tesla delivered 435,059 EVs in the second quarter, BYD wasn't far behind with 431,603.

BYD's success is not limited to its domestic market, as the Chinese automaker is also making waves overseas. It currently leads in countries such as Thailand, Brazil, Colombia, and Israel, and has plans to launch new models in Japan, Mexico, India, Australia, Hungary, and more. In fact, BYD recently celebrated the production of its 500,000th Dolphin electric hatchback and Yuan Plus electric vehicle.

One of BYD's main advantages in the EV market is its affordability. While many automakers are facing losses on each EV sold, BYD is actually making a profit. The company has achieved this by fully integrating its manufacturing process, with almost everything on the Dolphin EV being built in-house except for the tires and windows.

According to a leaked patent, BYD is preparing to launch an electric truck by the end of the year. Although specific details about the truck have not been released, reports suggest that it will be part of BYD's Ocean Series. The truck has been designed by Wolfgang Egger, a former Audi designer who now works for BYD. It features a prominent "BYD" logo on the front grille, four doors, and rugged fenders.

The electric pickup truck from BYD is expected to compete with other electric trucks in the market, such as Ford's F-150 Lightning, Geely's Radar RD6, and the Dongfeng Rich 6 EV. It is likely to be available in both all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. Inside the truck, a head-up display from Huawei has been spotted during testing. More information about the truck is expected to be revealed closer to its launch.

As pickup trucks gain popularity in China, EV manufacturers are starting to cater to the outdoor enthusiast market. For example, GM's joint venture in China recently launched the Wuling Bingo, which features an inflatable mattress in the rear for camping. Geely's Radar is also exporting electric trucks to overseas markets. With this trend in mind, BYD's new electric pickup truck is expected to offer features that appeal to those who enjoy camping and outdoor adventures. Stay tuned for more updates on BYD's latest offering.
