Electric vehicles steal the spotlight at Munro's East Kilbride event

MUNRO Vehicles, a manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s, recently hosted MSP Graham Simpson at its headquarters to showcase the first vehicles entering production. The company organized an open day in East Kilbride, where 61 investors, deposit holders, and fans were given tours of the workshops where the initial customer vehicles are being built.

During the visit, attendees had the chance to participate in a Q&A session with the company's founders. They asked various questions, ranging from production schedules to the wading capabilities of the MK_1 electric-powered, four-wheel-drive vehicle.

The first two Munro MK_1 customer vehicles being hand-built in East Kilbride are Founder Editions. The black truck is being constructed to Munro's Range specification, offering 220kW of power, 600Nm of torque, an estimated range of 190 miles, and a 2.5-tonne braked towing weight. On the other hand, the gloss-white pick-up, built in ultimate specification Performance guise, features a 280kW battery, 700Nm of torque, a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and an estimated range of 190 miles.

The Munro MK_1 is considered a "ground-breaking" solution that combines the reliability and repairability of a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. Its "spacious" rear bed can accommodate a 1,050kg Euro Pallet payload, while the Performance model boasts a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, making it suitable for various purposes like hauling farm implements, livestock, construction equipment, and disaster relief supplies.

With over 250 pre-orders already received for both the truck and pick-up models, Munro is poised to capture a significant share of the global market. The company is nearing completion of its first two production models with the support of its financial partners.

Graham Simpson MSP, a member of the Scottish Parliament sustainable transport and renewable energy and energy efficiency cross-party groups, expressed his fascination with Munro Vehicles, stating, "It has been fascinating to visit Munro Vehicles and see what Scotland's first volume automotive manufacturer in over four decades has to offer."

Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson expressed his pride in sharing the engineering and passion behind building these remarkable all-terrain electric vehicles. He was pleased to welcome MSP Graham Simpson to the company's headquarters and showcase Scottish innovation in sustainable transport.
