Electric vehicles take center stage at Munro's East Kilbride open day

MUNRO Vehicles, a manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s, recently had MSP Graham Simpson visit its HQ to witness the commencement of vehicle production. The company organized an open day in East Kilbride, where 61 investors, deposit holders, and fans were given tours of the workshops where the first customer vehicles are being produced.

During the event, there was a Q&A session with the company's founders, where visitors had the opportunity to ask questions about production schedules and the capabilities of the MK_1 electric-powered, four-wheel-drive vehicle. The session covered topics such as wading capabilities.

The first two customer vehicles being produced at the East Kilbride site are Founder Editions. The black truck, built to Munro's Range specification, has 220kW of power and 600Nm of torque. It offers an estimated range of 190 miles and a braked towing weight of 2.5 tonnes. The second vehicle is a gloss-white pick-up built in ultimate specification Performance guise. It features a 280kW battery, 700Nm of torque, a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and an estimated range of 190 miles.

The Munro MK_1 is a 'ground-breaking' solution that combines the reliability and repairability of a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. The vehicle also boasts a spacious rear bed that can accommodate a 1,050kg Euro Pallet payload. The Performance model has a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, making it suitable for hauling farm implements, livestock, construction equipment, and disaster relief supplies.

Munro has already received over 250 pre-orders for both the truck and pick-up models. With the support of financial partners, the company is well-positioned to capture the significant global market opportunity as it approaches the completion of its first two production models.

Graham Simpson MSP, a member of the Scottish Parliament sustainable transport and renewable energy and energy efficiency cross party groups, expressed his fascination with Munro Vehicles and their contribution as Scotland's first volume automotive manufacturer in over four decades.

Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson stated that the team is proud to share the engineering and passion behind their all-terrain electric vehicles. Welcoming MSP Graham Simpson to their HQ was a pleasure, as it provided an opportunity to showcase Scottish innovation in sustainable transport.
