Electric vehicles take center stage at Munro's East Kilbride open day

MUNRO Vehicles, a manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s, recently hosted MSP Graham Simpson at its headquarters to showcase the first vehicles entering production. The company organized an open day in East Kilbride, where 61 investors, deposit holders, and fans had the opportunity to tour the workshops and witness the production of the first customer vehicles.

The highlight of the visit was a Q&A session with the company's founders, during which visitors asked questions about production schedules and the capabilities of the MK_1 electric-powered, four-wheel-drive. The first two Munro MK_1 customer vehicles being built at the East Kilbride site are Founder Editions. The initial vehicle, a black truck, is being constructed to Munro's Range specification. With 220kW of power, 600Nm of torque, and an estimated range of 190 miles, the truck can tow up to 2.5 tonnes.

The second vehicle, a gloss-white pick-up in the ultimate Performance guise, features a 280kW battery, 700Nm of torque, a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, and an estimated range of 190 miles. The Munro MK_1 is considered a groundbreaking solution that combines the reliability and repairability of a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions.

The spacious rear bed of the vehicle can carry a 1,050kg Euro Pallet payload, while the Performance model boasts a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg. This makes it well-suited for transporting farm implements, livestock, construction equipment, and disaster relief supplies. Munro has already received over 250 pre-orders for both the truck and pick-up models, positioning the company to tap into the significant global market opportunity.

Graham Simpson MSP, a member of the Scottish Parliament sustainable transport and renewable energy and energy efficiency cross-party groups, expressed his fascination with Munro Vehicles, stating, "It has been fascinating to visit Munro Vehicles and see what Scotland's first volume automotive manufacturer in over four decades has to offer."

Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson expressed his pride in showcasing the engineering and passion behind the creation of these remarkable all-terrain electric vehicles. He was delighted to welcome MSP Graham Simpson to the company's headquarters and demonstrate the Scottish innovation in sustainable transport.
