Mazda's commitment to budget-friendly cars

MAZDA Australia is committed to offering more affordable models alongside its push towards a more "premium" brand status. While the company has recently introduced expensive new models, such as the Mazda CX-60 and CX-90 SUVs, Mazda Australia's managing director, Vinesh Bhindi, emphasized that these models are part of a strategy to cater to consumers who desire a more upmarket experience without completely repositioning the brand. Bhindi stated that Mazda Premium is not synonymous with luxury but rather represents a focus on offering something different, such as advanced technology, powertrain options, and luxury elements, while ensuring the value proposition remains strong.

Despite the introduction of higher-end models, Mazda Australia has no plans to abandon more affordable options. Bhindi confirmed that a next-generation replacement model for the popular Mazda CX-5 midsize SUV is in the works, indicating the brand's commitment to providing choices for customers at different price points. He also hinted at the possible introduction of a Mazda CX-80 in the future, further expanding the brand's offerings. While some models in Mazda's affordable range, such as the Mazda2 and CX-3, are aging, updates and refreshes are imminent.

Mazda Corporation's priorities align with Mazda Australia's commitment to offering a diverse range of models. The company's current focus is on large product platforms, followed by scalable architecture designed for battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology. While specific models were not mentioned, Mazda Australia aims to bring all of Mazda's manufactured products to the Australian market, even if they cater to niche segments. The brand currently has 14 different models available in Australia, with the affordable CX-3 light SUV leading sales and accounting for nearly 20% of new Mazdas sold in 2023.
