Eneos' 740bhp Supra-engined Jaguar E-Type

Toyota's 2JZ engine has become popular among project cars due to its durability and high performance capabilities. However, one particular project car stands out for its stylish design. Introducing the Eneos Jaguar E-Type 2JZ, a restomod that combines the power of a fire-spitting 740bhp engine with the classic '60s style of the Jaguar E-Type.

The E-Type 2JZ made its debut at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, where Eneos, Japan's largest oil company, showcased a range of Japanese-powered vehicles. Among them was a twin-Honda-engined Nissan 350Z. However, the E-Type took center stage at the Eneos stand, featuring modified bodywork and a custom mechanical layout to accommodate the new powertrain.

To achieve the impressive power output, the 3-litre straight-six motor was taken from an A80-generation Toyota Supra and equipped with a revised head, injectors, and fuel system. Additional upgrades include a Borg Warner turbocharger and improved rods and pistons. Once the final tuning is completed, the E-Type is expected to deliver 740bhp.

Given that the E-Type was not originally designed to handle such power, modern chassis components were installed beneath the fixed-head coupe body. The rear subframe, suspension, and differential were borrowed from an E60-generation BMW 5-series. British firm Charlie's Customs played a crucial role in the project, as they had to perform specialist fabrication work to ensure everything fit together seamlessly.

Power from the engine is transmitted to the rear wheels through a five-speed ZF gearbox sourced from an E36 3-series. To accommodate the increased performance, the E-Type features a wider 17-inch wheel and tire package, which fits snugly within bespoke flared arches reinforced with carbon fiber.

The end result is a car that deviates from the authentic E-Type, but it has the potential to become one of the fastest vehicles bearing the iconic nameplate. Currently, the title of the fastest E-Type belongs to a race car built by Jaguar motorsport specialist Fred Cliffe. Powered by a 7.3-litre V12 engine, Cliffe's creation generates approximately 750bhp and boasts a top speed of over 180mph.
