Enhanced 2024 ID.4 EV: More Performance, Power, and Technology

Volkswagen of America has announced that the 2024 ID.4 electric compact SUV will receive significant upgrades for its 82 kWh battery models. These upgrades include a new performance drive unit that will provide greater performance and an expected improvement in EPA-estimated range. Additionally, the 2024 ID.4 will feature an improved infotainment display and a new premium audio system, among other features.

The 2024 ID.4 will continue to be assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee and will be available in three trim levels: Standard/Pro, S, and S Plus. Customers will have the option to choose between 62 kWh or 82 kWh batteries, as well as rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

One of the key upgrades for the 2024 ID.4 82 kWh models is the introduction of a new performance drive unit, which will deliver greater horsepower and range compared to the previous model year. The rear-wheel-drive model will now produce an impressive 282 horsepower, while the all-wheel-drive model will generate around 330 horsepower. This increase in power will not only enhance acceleration but is also expected to result in improved range. EPA-estimated ranges for the 2024 ID.4 will be announced closer to the vehicle's market introduction.

In addition to performance upgrades, Volkswagen is also focusing on enhancing the technology in the 2024 ID.4. While the 62 kWh models will retain the standard 12-inch infotainment display, the 82 kWh models will receive an enhanced 12.9-inch display with backlit sliders. The climate control interface and infotainment menu have also been revised to be more intuitive. Furthermore, the car will feature a new shifter position and a redesigned steering wheel layout.

Comfort and convenience have been prioritized in the 2024 ID.4 as well. S models with the 82 kWh battery will come equipped with ventilated front-row seats, while S Plus models will receive a premium harman/kardonTM audio system with nine speakers, a subwoofer, and a 16-channel amplifier.

On the exterior, the 2024 ID.4 will offer upgraded wheel options. ID.4 Standard AWD models will feature larger 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, while S Plus vehicles will be equipped with 21-inch machined alloy wheels.

Pricing details for the 2024 ID.4 will be announced closer to its on-sale date in early 2024. It is worth noting that the 2023 ID.4 models are eligible for the full potential Federal Tax Credit of up to $7,500. Volkswagen is currently the only foreign automaker with a battery electric vehicle that qualifies for the full Federal Tax credit due to local assembly and sourcing.
