Fanuc secures Volvo Cars global robot contract
【Summary】Fanuc has secured a global contract with Volvo Cars to supply industrial robots to their plants worldwide, including new battery production facilities. Leading automation supplier Fanuc has recently entered into a contract with Volvo Cars to provide industrial robots for the automotive manufacturer's plants worldwide. This includes Volvo's upcoming battery production facilities in Europe, Asia, and America. The initial phase of the agreement involves supplying over 700 robots to a new manufacturing site in Kosice, Slovakia. Volvo Cars anticipates that the first vehicles will be produced at this location by 2026. Additionally, Fanuc will supply robots to sites in Ghent, Belgium, and China during this phase.
Marco Ghirardello, the president and CEO of Fanuc Europe, expressed pride in the partnership, stating that Volvo Cars sought a long-term partner in factory automation and that they are honored to shape the future of the automotive industry together. Volvo Cars has set ambitious goals for the future, planning to exclusively produce electric vehicles (EVs) from 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. The new Slovakian manufacturing facility will be Volvo's first site dedicated to manufacturing EVs, and Fanuc is excited to contribute to the company's sustainability efforts.
Ralf Völlinger, the general manager of Fanuc Europe's robot business division, emphasized the advantages of Fanuc's robots in terms of energy efficiency, durability, and maintenance. Their robots consume minimal energy, have a long lifespan, and require unlimited maintenance, making Fanuc an appealing partner for companies committed to sustainable operations.
