Ford Ends Production of Iconic Crown Victoria

The Ford Crown Victoria, known for being the most commonly used patrol car for law enforcement agencies in North America for almost two decades, has been discontinued. Although the name Crown Victoria had been used on previous trim levels of the Ford LTD, the car as it is known today was produced from 1991 to 2011. Recently, Crown Vics have been retired from police forces and replaced with Ford Taurus or Ford Explorer-based patrol cars. However, the Crown Victoria was also sold to civilians as a big, comfortable sedan.

The decision to discontinue the Crown Victoria was not due to one singular event, but rather a combination of factors. One of the main reasons was Ford's "The Way Forward" plan, which aimed to improve the company's financial situation. In a 2006 press release, Ford mentioned their focus on certain successful models such as the Ford F-Series, Explorer, Expedition, Mustang, Escape, and Fusion. However, the Crown Victoria was notably absent from this list.
