Ford Transit Custom Nugget debut

Ford has unveiled the latest version of its campervan, the Transit Custom Nugget, which features several updates and improvements. The new model offers a redesigned interior, with a modular cabin layout that accommodates the needs of campers. The L-shaped layout allows for easy movement within the cabin, providing access to cooking, seating, and sleeping areas.

In terms of design, the Transit Custom Nugget boasts a sleeker appearance compared to its predecessor. It sports thinner headlights, a new grille with a light bar running across the top, and smaller tail lights at the rear. These updates give the campervan a more futuristic look.

The collaboration between Ford and specialist Westfalia extends to the powertrain options as well. The Transit Custom Nugget will be available with a diesel engine, featuring a 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbocharged engine with 168bhp and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Additionally, there will be a plug-in hybrid option, combining a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and an 11.8kWh battery.

The interior of the Transit Custom Nugget offers various features to enhance the camping experience. The front seats can swivel around to face the rear, maximizing the use of interior space. There is also a second row of seats, allowing for a total of five occupants while on the move. The cabin provides two double bed spaces, one created by folding down the rear seating area and the other accessible through the pop-up Dormer roof. The roof section also features a foldable mattress, increasing headroom when needed. An optional solar panel on the roof can help charge the battery when off-grid.

The campervan is equipped with high-tech features, including a 5G modem that provides WiFi access and a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen. The touchscreen controls ambient lighting, onboard heating, and provides information on water and battery levels.

The Transit Custom Nugget benefits from updated chassis and suspension, offering a more car-like driving experience. With the option of all-wheel drive, the campervan is expected to perform well in light off-roading conditions. Driver assistance technology includes active cruise control and a 360-degree camera for improved visibility during parking.

The diesel version of the Ford Transit Custom Nugget will be available for sale in Autumn 2023, with deliveries expected in spring 2024. The plug-in hybrid model will be released a year later. Pricing details have not been announced yet, but the entry-level diesel models are estimated to start from over £60,000.
