Tesla Giga Berlin Production Drops Below 4,000 EVs Weekly

The production output of Tesla's German Gigafactory near Berlin has experienced a decline, producing less than 4,000 units per week, according to internal documents and anonymous sources cited by Business Insider.

Reuters reports that the production milestone of 5,000 units reached in March was a one-time occurrence, and Tesla has since gradually lowered the production target of its Berlin-Brandenburg facility. In July and August, the target was set at 4,350 cars per week, and it is expected to be even lower in the coming weeks.

Business Insider reveals that pictures of Tesla's internal workflow software indicated a target of 870 cars per day for July and August. However, there were days when the actual output fell below this target, with only 692 cars produced on July 25 and 806 on July 28.

According to unnamed workers at the plant, the internal target was further adjusted to 750 cars per day, resulting in a weekly output of 3,750 units.

Tesla's German Gigafactory focuses solely on the production of the Model Y electric crossover. After reaching the milestone of 5,000 units per week, the company reportedly added a third shift and had plans to add a fourth shift in April to double production.

However, two months later, Reuters reported that Tesla would reduce Saturday shifts and hire fewer temporary workers. Despite these changes, the company claimed that production was still on track to meet its self-imposed targets.

In Germany, the base rear-wheel drive Model Y starts at €44,890 or approximately $48,700, while the Long Range all-wheel drive variant is priced from €54,990 or about $59,700, including VAT. In comparison, a Model Y Long Range starts at $50,490 in the United States.
