Ford has made a significant hire, bringing on board Peter Stern, a former executive at Apple, to lead a new business unit focused on selling software-related subscription services to vehicle owners. The automaker, based in Dearborn, Michigan, announced on Monday that Stern will be in charge of Ford Integrated Services, a unit that combines software and hardware to offer innovative services.
Peter Stern, who previously served as Apple's vice president of services, brings a wealth of experience in overseeing various businesses at the tech giant. During his tenure at Apple, Stern was responsible for managing Apple TV plus, iCloud storage, Apple Books, the arcade and fitness operations, and more, according to Ford's statement.
Stern wasted no time in getting started, as he officially joined Ford on Monday and will report directly to CEO Jim Farley. In his new role, Stern will not only oversee the expansion of Ford's BlueCruise hands-free partially automated driving system, but he will also focus on enhancing productivity and implementing safety and security services, the statement added.
