GM's "Ultium-Powered Coupes" Set to Debut in 2026

General Motors is expanding its lineup of electric vehicles with a focus on dedicated EV architectures and Ultium batteries. So far, the company has launched SUVs and pickups like the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, Hummer EV SUV, and Cadillac Lyriq, along with the BrightDrop vans. However, there are more Ultium-based electric SUVs and trucks on the way, including the Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, and Buick Electra E5 SUV.

In addition to these models, General Motors will also introduce the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Cadillac Celestiq ultra-luxury sedan, which is expected to have a price tag of over $340,000. Now, it seems that GM is planning to add at least one coupe to its EV lineup. In a video announcing the availability of V2H capability (vehicle-to-home) across its Ultium-based EVs by 2026, GM mentioned that bi-directional charging will also be offered on "Ultium-based coupes."

This announcement by GM has sparked speculation about the potential coupe models. While no further details have been provided, the Camaro and Corvette nameplates come to mind as potential candidates for all-electric coupes. Last year, GM President Mark Reuss confirmed plans for a "fully electric version" of the Corvette, following the release of the E-Ray hybrid. However, it is unclear whether the BEV Corvette will be a coupe. Reports from last year suggested that GM may be considering turning Corvette into a standalone EV brand, offering four-door and SUV models as well.

As for the Camaro, there is a possibility that it could go all-electric as a coupe. GM previously announced that 2024 will be the final model year for the Camaro, but stated that it is not the end for the nameplate. With the mention of "Ultium-based coupes" in the video, it is hopeful that both the Corvette and the Camaro will transition to Ultium technology while maintaining their iconic two-door body styles. Additionally, it is worth considering that GM BEV coupes could also come from Cadillac and Buick, as demonstrated by the Wildcat Concept.
