Highway Reading Enabled by Polestar 4's New Semi-Autonomous Technology

The Polestar 4 is set to revolutionize the automotive industry with its advanced technology. As a relatively small company, Polestar aims to establish itself as a leader in autonomous driving technology. It plans to achieve this by incorporating Mobileye's "Chauffeur" partially autonomous driving technology into its vehicles.

While the exact release date for this new system has not been announced, Polestar is confident that Chauffeur will make its debut with the Polestar 4. Although the vehicle is already available for purchase in China, the technology will not be included from the factory. However, the Polestar 4 will come equipped with Chauffeur capability thanks to Mobileye's SuperVision-based ADAS system.

Chauffeur is described as an "eyes-off, point-to-point" autonomous driving system specifically designed for highways. On other roads, the system functions as an "eyes-on automated driving" experience. This puts Polestar ahead of most of its competitors, as the majority of ADAS systems currently on the market are only Level 2 or 2+.

However, Polestar is not the only company working on Level 3 autonomous technology. Mercedes is also in the process of introducing its DrivePilot system, which allows drivers to take their eyes off the road on certain highways. Although it does not permit drivers to fall asleep, it does provide the opportunity to engage in activities such as reading or playing games on the infotainment system in specific driving scenarios.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath expressed excitement about the collaboration with Mobileye, stating that it will greatly enhance the innovation of the Polestar 4. He believes that autonomous driving will make future journeys more enjoyable for customers who may not always want to drive themselves.

Customers can expect the first deliveries of the Polestar 4 to begin in China before the end of 2023, with global sales and deliveries starting next year.
