Investigation into Ram Truck Crashes
【Summary】Over a million Ram trucks are being investigated after three reported crashes due to power steering issues. The NHTSA is looking into the problem and urges owners to report any similar issues.
We can find detailed user issues on the NHTSA website. One owner from Trenton, ME, reports experiencing intermittent power steering issues with their EPS. They mentioned that sometimes the power steering is present while driving, but other times it cuts out. Upon researching online, they discovered that other vehicles from the same year and manufacturer have the same problem and have been recalled, but not their own.
An even more concerning testimonial comes from an owner from Monroe, GA. They stated that their truck completely lost steering power, leaving them with no control over the steering. Fortunately, they were able to stop without getting into an accident.
Just a few months ago, a "do not drive" advisory was issued for 29,000 units of the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks due to Takata Airbag recalls.
Regarding the current investigation by the NHTSA, a decision on a potential recall has not yet been made. However, the agency is urging owners of the affected Ram 1500s to promptly report any power steering issues they encounter.
