JAC's Tesla Semi Replica
【Summary】Chinese manufacturer JAC Motors has developed a near-clone of the all-electric Tesla Semi, with clear similarities in design and features. Photos of the JAC prototype show a similar cab shape, large windshield, and positioning of headlights. The cabin also features a centrally-mounted seat and two large screens, resembling the Tesla Semi. This clone could potentially reach the production line, posing competition for Tesla in the heavy transportation industry.
The all-electric Tesla Semi has caught the attention of the heavy transportation industry, and it seems that a Chinese manufacturer has taken note. Recent photos reveal a prototype truck that bears a striking resemblance to the Tesla Semi, and it could potentially make its way to production.
The pictures were taken at a JAC Motors facility, a company known for producing passenger cars and operating a joint venture with VW. The similarities between the JAC prototype and the Tesla Semi are immediately apparent. The overall shape of the cab is almost identical, with a large windshield that seamlessly extends across the A-pillars to the side windows. Although the camouflage makes the pillars more noticeable, if they were finished in black like on the Semi, they would be much harder to spot.
Another similarity is the positioning of the headlights, which are located just ahead of the front wheel arches, mirroring the Tesla design. The overall angle of the front end is also reminiscent of the Semi. However, there are a few differences worth noting. The JAC prototype seems to have a window or possibly a solar panel above the windshield, a feature that the electric Semi lacks. Additionally, the JAC prototype is equipped with digital wing mirrors, whereas the road-going Semi currently uses traditional mirrors (although the original concept did include digital mirrors).
Turning our attention to the cabin, a single image shared by Inside EVs reveals that the JAC prototype has a centrally-mounted seat, just like the Tesla Semi. Furthermore, the cabin appears to have two large screens on either side of the steering wheel, similar to the Tesla design.
