Jaguar's Electric Four-Door GT Signals Brand's Next Chapter

Jaguar is preparing to enter its all-electric era with a £100,000 four-door GT. An exclusive image reveals some key details about the upcoming vehicle. The rear image shows a departure from Jaguar's current lineup, featuring a wide stance, squared-off angles, straight lines, and a prominent diffuser. The car also boasts razor-thin tail-lights and no Jaguar badging. According to JLR boss Adrian Mardell, there is a clear intention to give Jaguar a fresh visual identity that captures the brand's emotion. The new design language, described as "jaw dropping," was chosen unanimously by key stakeholders involved in the decision-making process.

The design process, known as Project Renaissance, was initiated by JLR's Chief Creative Officer, Gerry McGovern. Three teams within JLR's design studio were given a common brief to create three distinct types of vehicles. Within three months, 18 clay-model proposals were produced. The GT we see in the image represents the first interpretation of this new design language.

Several prototypes of the GT are expected to hit the road for testing by the end of the year. The car is scheduled to be officially unveiled in April or May 2024, with sales commencing in 2025. The GT's design also gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the two new crossovers that will complete Jaguar's lineup. Mardell emphasizes the importance of a "family look" across the brand's offerings.

Jaguar is undergoing a complete reboot as part of JLR's Reimagine strategy. The brand will be positioned alongside Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery as one of JLR's four "brand pillars." Rather than replacing existing models, Jaguar will be moved upmarket. The GT, along with the other two cars in the lineup, will be manufactured at the Solihull plant, which will also produce the all-electric Range Rover.

The GT is set to become the most powerful Jaguar production car ever made, surpassing the brand's current EV, the I-Pace, in terms of range and charging capacity. Although specific motor outputs and performance figures have not been released, Jaguar claims the GT will offer up to 700km (435 miles) of range and be capable of adding approximately 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes of rapid charging.
