Jaguar is preparing for its all-electric future with the introduction of a £100,000 four-door GT. Our exclusive image gives a clear indication of what to expect from the design of the vehicle. The rear image reveals a departure from Jaguar's current design direction, with distinct squared-off angles and a wide stance. The teaser image also suggests the use of solid surfacing and advanced aerodynamic treatment, including a prominent diffuser to improve the car's range. The GT is expected to feature razor-thin tail-lights, adding to its striking appearance.
Newly appointed JLR boss Adrian Mardell expressed a desire to take Jaguar in a new direction with a fresh visual identity that captures the emotion of the brand. Jaguar's team of designers presented various design options to key stakeholders, and the design language seen in our image was the unanimous choice. Mardell describes it as "jaw dropping."
The design process, known as Project Renaissance, was initiated by JLR's Chief Creative Officer, Gerry McGovern. Three teams within JLR's design studio in Gaydon were given a common brief to create three distinct types of vehicles. In just three months, they produced 18 clay-model proposals. It is anticipated that several prototypes of the new GT will be tested on the road by the end of the year, with an official unveiling planned for April or May 2024. Sales are expected to begin in 2025.
The introduction of the GT not only signals Jaguar's new design direction but also provides insight into the upcoming crossovers that will complete the brand's lineup. Mardell emphasizes the importance of a cohesive family look across the range. As part of JLR's Reimagine strategy, Jaguar is being repositioned alongside Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery as one of the four brand pillars. The GT, along with the other two cars in the lineup, will be manufactured at the Solihull plant, which will also produce the all-electric Range Rover.
The GT is set to become the most powerful Jaguar production car ever made, surpassing the brand's existing electric vehicle, the I-Pace, in terms of range and charging capacity. Although specific motor outputs and performance figures have not been released, Jaguar claims the new model will have a range of up to 700km (435 miles) and be capable of adding approximately 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes of rapid charging.
