Jeep Avenger expands lineup with hybrid and gasoline options

Jeep is expanding its Avenger crossover line-up with new additions, including mild hybrid and petrol versions. These join the existing fully electric model, which was recently named European Car of the Year 2023.

The mild hybrid petrol variant of the baby SUV features a 100hp 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission that includes a 29hp electric motor. The hybrid technology offers additional torque at low speeds and reduces CO2 emissions by up to 15% compared to a conventional combustion engine with an automatic transmission. It is expected to have CO2 emissions of up to 114g/km and achieve 46mpg WLTP combined.

The Avenger e-Hybrid will also introduce new features such as a sunroof, powered driver's seat with massage function, and a 7-inch driver's display (with an optional 10.25-inch screen). It will be available in the same Longitude, Altitude, and Summit grades as the EV model, and drivers will have the option to choose from two new connected services packs.

In addition, a limited-edition petrol version called the Avenger Altitude Plus will be released. It will feature the 100hp 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine from the mild hybrid variant, paired with a manual transmission. The Altitude Plus will come with high-end features as standard, including navigation, a reversing camera, a JBL-branded eight-speaker premium audio system, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated seats, front and rear velour carpet mats, blind spot monitoring, and automatic high beam headlights.

These new additions join the Avenger EV, which is Jeep's first-ever fully electric model. The EV version offers up to 248 miles of range (WLTP combined), 156hp of power, and a 100kW rapid charging rate. It is available in three trims, with prices starting from £35,700.

Jeep's electrification plan in Europe began in 2020 with the introduction of plug-in hybrid versions of the Compass, Renegade, and the new Grand Cherokee. The brand aims to offer an electrified variant for all its vehicles by 2025, while also providing customers with the freedom to choose from different powertrains.

Eric Laforge, head of the Jeep brand in Europe, stated that the new Avenger e-Hybrid represents another step towards electrification and is designed to be an eco-friendly vehicle that caters to a wide range of customers seeking capability, style, technology, and comfort in a compact size.

The e-Hybrid model will be available for orders in December, with first deliveries expected in Q2 2024. The limited-edition Avenger Altitude Plus petrol variant will also be released in December. Prices and official performance and economy figures have yet to be announced.
