JLR unveils £250M electric vehicle center

JLR, formerly known as Jaguar Land Rover, has recently inaugurated a new facility in Coventry that is solely focused on the development of electric car drive units. This new facility, called the Future Energy Lab, is located at Whitley, one of JLR's engineering centers. It is equipped with various test rigs for electrical systems and includes cold-weather chambers. Additionally, the lab has the capacity for drive-unit production.

According to JLR, the battery-electric Range Rover is one of the new cars currently undergoing testing at the Future Energy Lab. The company plans to launch this electric Range Rover next year, and the testing being conducted at the lab is a crucial part of its development process.

The Future Energy Lab already has a workforce of 200 engineers. However, JLR has announced its intention to create an additional 150 roles in the lab as it continues to expand and develop new electric car technologies. This demonstrates the company's commitment to investing in the future of electric vehicles and further solidifies its position as a leader in the automotive industry.
