JLR unveils £250M electric vehicle research center

JLR (formerly Jaguar Land Rover) has recently inaugurated a brand new facility in Coventry that is solely focused on the development of electric car drive units. The facility, called the Future Energy Lab, is located at Whitley, which is one of JLR's engineering centers.

The Future Energy Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art test rigs for electrical systems, including specialized cold-weather chambers. Additionally, it has the capacity to produce drive units for electric cars. This comprehensive setup allows JLR to thoroughly test and refine their electric vehicle technology.

One of the exciting projects currently underway at the Future Energy Lab is the testing of the battery-electric Range Rover. This highly anticipated electric SUV is set to be launched next year, and the facility is playing a crucial role in its development and fine-tuning.

With the establishment of the Future Energy Lab, JLR has already hired 200 engineers who are dedicated to working on electric vehicle technology. Looking ahead, the company plans to create an additional 150 roles at the facility, further expanding their expertise and capabilities in the electric vehicle sector.
