Kia EV5 production version unveiled
【Summary】Kia has revealed its new compact electric SUV, the EV5, at the Chengdu motor show in China. The EV5 shares the same platform as the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6. It offers chunky styling and promises more practicality than the sleek EV6. While Kia has confirmed deliveries of the EV5 in China, it remains unclear if it will be available in the UK. The EV5's dimensions are expected to be similar to the mid-sized Sportage model.
The Korean car brands, Kia and Hyundai, have been particularly busy in recent years, consistently introducing new models. The latest addition to Kia's lineup is the Kia EV5, a compact electric SUV. Unveiled at the Chengdu motor show in China, the EV5 features chunky styling that takes inspiration from the larger seven-seat Kia EV9, while offering greater practicality than the sleek EV6.
Kia has confirmed that the EV5 will be available in the Chinese market by the end of the year, but there is no information yet on whether it will be offered in the UK. While Kia has not released full specifications for the EV5, it is expected to have dimensions similar to the brand's mid-sized petrol-powered Sportage model. Given the Sportage's popularity in the UK, it would be surprising if the EV5 is not made available there.
The production version of the Kia EV5 closely resembles the EV5 concept car that was showcased earlier this year at the Shanghai Auto Show. It incorporates Kia's 'Opposites United' design language, which can also be seen in the EV9 and the latest Kia Picanto facelift. The front of the EV5 features a distinctive 'Tiger Face' grille design created by a series of LED daytime running light elements, although there is no actual grille present.
