Kia EV5 production version unveiled
【Summary】Kia has revealed the new EV5 electric SUV, which shares the same platform as the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6. The compact SUV offers chunky styling and promises more practicality than the sleek EV6. While deliveries to China are confirmed, it remains uncertain if the EV5 will be available in the UK. The production model closely resembles the earlier concept car, featuring LED daytime running lights and a distinctive grille design.
Korean car brands, Kia and Hyundai, have been incredibly active in recent years. The latest addition to their lineup is the new Kia EV5, which was unveiled at the Chengdu motor show in China. This compact electric SUV features chunky styling that is reminiscent of the larger Kia EV9, while offering more practicality than the sleek EV6.
Kia has confirmed that the EV5 will be available in the Chinese market by the end of the year, but there is no word yet on whether it will be released in the UK. While full specifications have not been released, it is expected that the dimensions of the EV5 will be similar to Kia's mid-sized petrol-powered Sportage model. Given the Sportage's popularity in the UK, it would be surprising if the EV5 is not offered there.
The production version of the EV5 closely resembles the EV5 concept car that was showcased earlier this year at the Shanghai Auto Show. It incorporates Kia's 'Opposites United' design language, which can also be seen in the EV9 and the latest Kia Picanto facelift. The front of the EV5 features a series of LED daytime running light elements that form Kia's signature 'Tiger Face' grille design, albeit without an actual grille.
