In a shocking incident, a Kia Stonic worth £25,000 caught fire while being driven on the road. The flames were spotted by workers from a waste management firm who were travelling behind the car in Luton on Friday. This incident occurred less than two miles away from Luton airport, where a massive fire had destroyed a brand new £20 million parking structure just a week before.

The flames emerged from underneath the white car, which had two passengers inside. The workers quickly reacted, leaping out of their vehicle and alerting the driver and passenger in the Kia Stonic. The male passenger, wearing a red T-shirt, retrieved something from the boot before moving out of harm's way.

It is worth noting that Luton had recently experienced a major airport fire, where 1,500 cars were destroyed after a car exploded in the new parking structure. This incident adds to the unfortunate trend of car fires in the area.

The workers from Boxell Removals honked their horn and shouted at the passengers to get out of the car when they got stuck in traffic. One of the workers jumped out of their vehicle and ran towards the burning car, urging the passengers to exit. He yelled, "Get out! Your car is on fire, man, underneath!"

The video footage shows the pair standing on the side of Crawley Green Road as the fire continued to spread. Police arrived at the scene and stopped traffic in both directions, while firefighters worked to extinguish the inferno.

The DVLA website lists the car as a petrol-fueled vehicle with a 19-plate. A spokesperson from Boxell Removals commented on the incident, stating, "Friday the 13th hit this couple hard."

Local resident Alfie Clarke remarked, "Luton has a thing with cars on fire," reflecting on the unfortunate trend of car fires in the area. Others expressed their surprise and confusion, with one person questioning how such incidents occur and another realizing that cars on fire don't explode like they do in movies.

Despite the shocking incident, many were relieved that the passengers were safe. One person named Becky even joked, "With the price of shopping, I would have grabbed it and all. Glad they're safe though."

A spokesperson from the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service provided details about the incident. They stated that they received a call about a vehicle on fire on Crawley Green Road at around 2:24 pm on Friday, October 13th. One fire engine from Luton attended the scene, and firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reels, and a thermal imaging camera to safely extinguish the fire. Bedfordshire Police implemented a scene safety zone, and Fire Control received multiple repeat calls regarding the incident.
