Lamborghini's First Electric Vehicle: Introducing the Four-seat Lanzador GT Concept
【Summary】Lamborghini has unveiled its first electric vehicle, the four-seat Lanzador GT concept. The concept car, showcased at Monterey Car Week, is a bridge between the Urus SUV and the company's mid-engined supercars. The Lanzador aims to offer "best-in-class sportiveness and fun-to-drive character" and serves as a "laboratory on wheels" for showcasing future technology and manufacturing methods.
The long-awaited electric Lamborghini has finally arrived. After five years since the introduction of the Urus SUV, the supercar company is venturing into a new segment with the Lanzador, a stunning four-seat GT.
Unveiled as a concept at Monterey Car Week in California, the Lanzador is set to be launched in five years. This sleek two-row supercar has a similar size to the Porsche Taycan but is designed to sit higher from the ground, aiming for improved versatility.
The Lanzador is meant to bridge the gap between the Urus and Lamborghini's lineup of traditional mid-engined supercars. It represents a concrete vision of the company's next model line, staying true to Lamborghini's DNA by offering the best-in-class sportiveness and a fun-to-drive character.
More than just a show car, the Lanzador is described as a "laboratory on wheels," showcasing the production intent of its technology and manufacturing methods.
The confirmation of an electric Lamborghini came in 2021 when CEO Stephan Winkelmann revealed discussions about the car's bodystyle and positioning. However, speculation about Lamborghini's first EV has been circulating since 2017, when the Terzo Millennio hypercar hinted at the company's zero-emission future.
The Lanzador provides a glimpse into Lamborghini's electric future, giving insights into what the brand's upcoming electric vehicles will look and sound like. When asked why the new model is being shown five years before its release, Winkelmann explained that it is a strategic move to prepare the market and allow people to anticipate what is coming in the future.
Over the next five years, Lamborghini plans to gather opinions and develop new approaches to create a distinctive character for its EVs, ensuring they do not jeopardize the existing lineup or cannibalize sales.
