Lamborghini's first electric vehicle: The four-seat Lanzador GT concept

The long-awaited electric Lamborghini has finally arrived. After five years since the introduction of the Urus SUV, the supercar company is venturing into a new segment with the Lanzador, a stunning four-seat GT.

Unveiled as a concept at Monterey Car Week in California, the Lanzador is set to launch in five years. This rakish two-row supercar has a similar size as the Porsche Taycan but sits higher from the ground to provide enhanced "versatility".

The Lanzador has been designed as a bridge between the Urus and Lamborghini's lineup of traditional mid-engined supercars. It is considered a "concrete vision" of the company's next model line, aiming to offer "best-in-class sportiveness and fun-to-drive character" while staying true to Lamborghini's DNA.

Described as a "laboratory on wheels", the Lanzador goes beyond being a mere show car. It showcases the technology and manufacturing methods that will be used in production, highlighting its intent to bring the concept to life.

Speculation about an electric Lamborghini has been ongoing since 2017 when the Terzo Millennio hypercar hinted at the company's zero-emission future. In 2021, CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed the development of an electric Lamborghini and discussions regarding its bodystyle and positioning.

The Lanzador provides a glimpse into Lamborghini's electric future, showcasing what their upcoming electric vehicles will look and sound like. Winkelmann explained the decision to reveal the concept five years ahead of the production car's arrival, stating that it allows the company to prepare the market and gather opinions while maintaining the distinct character of their lineup.

Over the next five years, Lamborghini will use this time to seek feedback and develop new approaches to ensure their EVs have a unique and recognizable identity.
