Lamborghini's First Electric Vehicle: The Four-Seat Lanzador GT Concept
【Summary】Lamborghini has unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV) concept, the four-seat Lanzador GT. Positioned as a bridge between the Urus SUV and traditional mid-engined supercars, the Lanzador aims to offer "best-in-class sportiness" and be a "laboratory on wheels" for showcasing new technology. Although the production car is five years away, Lamborghini wants to prepare the market for its EV future and seek opinions to develop a distinctive character for its electric models.
The long-awaited electric Lamborghini has finally arrived, marking the company's entrance into a new segment. Five years after the introduction of the Urus SUV, Lamborghini is now introducing the Lanzador, a dramatic four-seat GT.
Unveiled as a concept at Monterey Car Week in California, the Lanzador is a sleek two-row supercar with a footprint similar to the Porsche Taycan. However, it sits higher from the ground in an effort to enhance its "versatility". This model serves as a bridge between the Urus and Lamborghini's traditional mid-engined supercars, offering "best-in-class sportiveness and fun-to-drive character".
The Lanzador is more than just a show car; it is described as a "laboratory on wheels" that showcases the production intent of its technology and manufacturing methods. It provides a concrete vision of Lamborghini's next new model line while staying true to the company's DNA.
In 2021, CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed the development of an electric Lamborghini and discussed the car's bodystyle and positioning. However, speculation about Lamborghini's first EV has been circulating since 2017, when the Terzo Millennio hypercar hinted at the company's zero-emission future.
The Lanzador sheds light on Lamborghini's electric future, offering a glimpse into what the company's forthcoming EVs will look and sound like. Winkelmann explained that revealing the concept five years before production allows Lamborghini to prepare the market and gather opinions. It also provides an opportunity for the company to develop a distinctive character for its EVs.
