Less Costly Electric Orca Now Being Delivered by Taiga Motors
【Summary】Canadian EV manufacturer Taiga Motors has started delivering its less expensive electric personal watercraft (PWC), the Orca Performance, priced at $19,490. The Orca initially launched with the Carbon model priced at $26,500. Both models feature a 24kWh battery pack and 160 horsepower electric motor, offering around 2 hours of riding on a single charge. The Performance model can be charged in three and a half hours, or in just forty minutes with an onboard CCS charging port.
Last July, Taiga Motors introduced its first electric personal watercraft (PWC) called the Orca. The initial model, named the "Carbon," had a price tag of $26,500 and featured a carbon fiber shell that enhanced its design and reduced weight.
Although the Orca Carbon was an interesting product, its high price compared to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) PWCs, which typically cost around $15,000, made it a costly choice.
However, the Orca was the first electric PWC to hit the market, similar to the original Tesla Roadster, which had a higher price but attracted buyers who wanted to be the first to own such a groundbreaking vehicle. Now, the Orca is becoming more affordable.
Taiga is now offering the Orca Performance at a price of $19,490, as planned during its launch. The Performance model has the same propulsion system as the Carbon, with a 24kWh battery pack and a 160 horsepower electric motor, providing approximately 2 hours of riding time on a single charge. In terms of distance, this equates to about 27 miles.
When the battery is depleted, the Orca comes with a 6.6kW onboard charger that allows for a charging time of three and a half hours. For an additional $650, customers can opt for the onboard CCS charging port, reducing the charge time from zero to eighty percent to just forty minutes.
Following the Performance model, Taiga will release a Sport variant with a lower output of 90 horsepower, starting at $17,490.
The Canadian EV manufacturer will continue producing the Carbon model. Customers who choose this option can also select the fast charge package and different seat and body colors at no additional cost.
