Tesla has introduced its Universal Wall Connector, a charging system that is compatible with any electric vehicle. The charger includes a North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug and an Integrated J1772 adapter, allowing for convenient charging. Non-Tesla owners will appreciate the ability to view charging history and energy consumption through the Tesla app.
The announcement of the Universal Wall Connector was made by Tesla through social media. Videos and the product page on the Tesla Shop highlight the key feature of the charger: the integrated J1772 adapter designed for charging non-Tesla vehicles.
This system is similar to the Magic Dock used at Tesla's Supercharger stations to charge non-Tesla electric cars. The Universal Wall Connector offers several innovative functions, as indicated on its Tesla Shop page.
In addition to the integrated J1772 adapter and NACS plug, the Universal Wall Connector can add 44 miles of range per hour at 11.5 kW/48 amp output. It also has Wi-Fi connectivity for over-the-air software updates.
Most notably, the Universal Wall Connector provides access to the Tesla App, allowing users to monitor and manage their charging schedule and usage. This feature is not typically found in non-Tesla chargers, making it useful for everyday use.
Priced at $595, the Universal Wall Connector is more expensive than Tesla's current Wall Connector, which is priced at $475. However, considering its features and convenience, the product may be worth the investment. Interested buyers can place orders for the Universal Wall Connector, with shipments starting in October.
