MINI Cooper and Countryman EVs debut at IAA Mobility 2023

MINI will be unveiling two new electric vehicles (EVs) at this year's IAA Mobility event in Munich. The fourth-generation MINI Cooper and third-generation MINI Countryman have been teased in recent months and will make their world premieres at the event.

Starting with the Cooper, the carmaker has already revealed the exterior design, which features a simplified and recognizable shape. The front grille is mostly blanked off with an octagonal shape, accompanied by round integrated headlamps. At the rear, triangular taillights are connected by a trim piece running across the tailgate.

Inside the redesigned Cooper, there is a circular OLED touchscreen display measuring 9.4 inches in diameter. The design takes inspiration from the original Mini, with the speedometer displayed within the center circle along with additional information. The traditional instrument cluster is replaced by a head-up display.

The new Cooper also features a redesigned panel that houses the gear selector switch and controls for select vehicle functions. It is worth noting that the Cooper will be available in both electric and combustion engine variants.

On the other hand, the upcoming Countryman is confirmed to be longer and taller than its predecessor, offering improved headroom. It will be produced in Germany, marking the first time a MINI model is manufactured in the country. Like the Cooper, the Countryman will be available with both electric and combustion engine powertrains.

Both the Cooper and Countryman EVs will have impressive battery capacities and expected ranges. The Cooper will come with a 40.7-kWh or 54.2-kWh battery, while the Countryman will have a 64-kWh battery. The estimated ranges for both models are expected to be between 300 to 400 km for the Cooper and up to 450 km for the Countryman.

The IAA Mobility event in September will provide a more complete picture of MINI's next-generation lineup, including the debut of the latest G60 5 Series' plug-in hybrid variants and the showcase of other models.

Overall, MINI's commitment to electric vehicles is evident with the introduction of these new models, offering customers a wider range of options in the EV market.
