Mitsubishi Mirage to End Production by 2025

The current generation of the Mitsubishi Mirage was primarily developed to meet emissions regulations in Thailand, one of the brand's largest markets with affordable labor costs. While the Mirage may not be considered a great car, it has gained a reputation as a reliable and affordable option.

According to Cox, the Mirage was the only vehicle selling below $20,000 in July, highlighting its longstanding role as a budget-friendly transportation option. However, Mitsubishi had plans to abandon the sedan market and focus on value-focused vehicles in developing markets.

Mitsubishi's decision to discontinue the Mirage by 2025 is not surprising, considering the shift towards electrified products and larger vehicles with higher profit margins. Despite fuel prices and a value-focused market, the Mirage's era as an affordable economy car is coming to an end.

The Mirage's starting price has increased to $16,245, making it less appealing compared to other models in its segment. While it still offers an impressive warranty and excellent fuel economy, the Mirage's lackluster performance and aging design limit its appeal.

As the price of the Mirage has increased, its value proposition has diminished. Competing models like the Kia Rio and Nissan Versa offer more modern features and power without sacrificing fuel efficiency. This, along with the overall decline in sales for economy cars, has contributed to the Mirage's decreasing popularity.

The future of the Mirage remains uncertain, but sources suggest that it may not be available in North America beyond 2025. Mitsubishi has not provided specific details regarding the Mirage's departure from the market, but it currently serves as an entry-level vehicle in their portfolio.
