Munro Vehicles' electric 4x4 enters production

Munro Vehicles has started production on its first all-electric 4x4, marking the first time a light vehicle has been made in Scotland in over 40 years. The initial two customer vehicles, known as the Munro MK_1, are hand-built at the company's headquarters in East Kilbride. These founder editions were designed with a clean-sheet approach and engineered to last for 50 years.

The first vehicle is a black truck with 220kW of power and 600Nm of torque. It has an estimated range of 190 miles and a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes. The second vehicle is a pick-up with a 280kW battery, a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, and a similar estimated range of 190 miles.

The Munro MK_1 is an electric-powered, four-wheel-drive vehicle that combines a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an advanced electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. It features a spacious rear bed capable of carrying a 1050kg Euro pallet payload. The performance model has a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, making it suitable for various purposes such as transporting farm equipment, livestock, construction materials, and disaster relief supplies.

With a peak power output of 375kW and 700Nm of torque, the Munro MK_1 can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just 4.9 seconds. It is available in utility, performance, and range variants to cater to different needs.

The vehicle is equipped with an 82.4kWh battery, which can be rapidly charged from 15% to 80% capacity in only 36 minutes using a 100kW DC charger. A fully charged battery provides a range of over 190 miles, allowing for up to 16 hours of off-road operation on a single charge.

Munro has already received more than 250 pre-orders for both the truck and pick-up models. The company is targeting sectors such as mining, construction, utilities, agriculture, and defense.

"The team and I are proud to have the opportunity to share the engineering and passion that goes into building these incredible all-terrain electric vehicles," said Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson.
