Munro Vehicles unveils their first-ever all-electric 4x4
【Summary】Scotland-based company Munro Vehicles has unveiled its first all-electric 4x4, the Munro MK_1, which has entered production. The vehicle is the first light vehicle to be manufactured in Scotland in over four decades. The MK_1 comes in two models, a black truck and a pick-up, both featuring powerful electric drivetrains and estimated ranges of 190 miles.
Munro Vehicles has started production of its first all-electric 4x4, marking the first light vehicle to be manufactured in Scotland in over 40 years. The company's East Kilbride headquarters has hand-built the first two customer vehicles, which are founder editions designed with clean-sheet principles and engineered for 50 years of service.
The first vehicle is a black truck with 220kW of power and 600Nm of torque. It has an estimated range of 190 miles and a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes when braked. The second vehicle is a pick-up built for ultimate performance, featuring a 280kW battery, a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, and an estimated range of 190 miles.
The Munro MK_1 is an electric-powered, four-wheel-drive vehicle that combines a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an advanced electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. It has a spacious rear bed capable of holding a 1050kg Euro pallet payload. The performance model has a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, making it suitable for various purposes such as transporting farm implements, livestock, construction equipment, and disaster relief supplies.
With a peak power output of 375kW and 700Nm of torque, the Munro MK_1 can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just 4.9 seconds. It is available in utility, performance, and range variants to cater to different needs.
The vehicle is equipped with an 82.4kWh battery, which can be rapidly charged from 15% to 80% capacity in just 36 minutes using a 100kW DC charger. A fully charged battery provides a range of over 190 miles, allowing for up to 16 hours of off-road operation on a single charge.
Munro has already received over 250 pre-orders for both the truck and pick-up models. The company is targeting sectors such as mining, construction, utilities, agriculture, and defense.
"The team and I are proud to have the opportunity to share the engineering and passion that goes into building these incredible all-terrain electric vehicles," said Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson.
