Munro Vehicles, a Scottish manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s, is making progress in completing its first vehicles for customers at its factory in East Kilbride. The company has received over 250 pre-orders for its truck and pick-up models, with expectations of increasing volume from target markets such as mining, construction, utilities, agriculture, and defense.
To showcase its progress, Munro Vehicles invited 61 investors, deposit holders, and supporters to witness the production of the first light vehicle in Scotland in over four decades. Conservative MSP Graham Simpson, who is part of the Scottish Parliament's Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency groups, expressed his fascination with the company's offerings. He believes that Munro's rugged, all-electric 4x4 could be the solution for sectors like agriculture, forestry, and wind turbine management, which are more challenging to decarbonize. Simpson also highlighted the potential for Munro to become a major employer in the region, creating highly skilled jobs within the company and the wider supply chain.
Munro CEO and Co-Founder Russell Peterson expressed his pride in sharing the engineering and passion behind the development of these all-terrain electric vehicles. He was pleased to welcome MSP Graham Simpson to the company's headquarters and showcase Scottish innovation in sustainable transport.
The first two customer vehicles, known as Founder Editions, are currently being hand-built at Munro's East Kilbride headquarters. The first vehicle is a truck built to Munro's Range specification, offering 220kW of power, 600Nm of torque, an estimated range of 190 miles, and a 2.5-tonne braked towing weight. The second vehicle is a pick-up with a 280kW battery, 700Nm of torque, a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and a range of approximately 190 miles.
The Munro MK_1 is equipped with an 82.4kWh battery that can be rapidly recharged from 15% to 80% capacity in just 36 minutes using a 100kW DC charger. A fully charged battery provides a range of over 190 miles, allowing for up to 16 hours of off-road operation on a single charge.
