'Neue Klasse' electric cars: BMW CEO sees profitability on par with petrol and diesel

German car manufacturer BMW is making the same profit from its electric vehicles as it does from its petrol and diesel vehicles, according to the company's CEO, Oliver Zipse. Zipse made this statement while presenting the new generation of electric cars called "Neue Klasse" at the IAA auto show in Munich. He emphasized that the assumption that combustion engines are always more profitable than electric cars is completely wrong.

Despite the fact that producing electric cars is more expensive, BMW is able to offset these costs with the higher prices that customers are willing to pay. Zipse stated that they are currently making money with every electric car and that this will be even more profitable with the Neue Klasse. He expressed confidence in the profitability of the new models.

BMW's entrance into the electric vehicle market will put them in direct competition with Tesla, which has already started a price war. Although BMW has not yet announced the prices for the Neue Klasse, Zipse assured that they will offer a very competitive price and will not price themselves out of the market.

At the Munich auto show, BMW unveiled a prototype for the upcoming "Neue Klasse" electric vehicle. The EV, which is similar in size to the current 3-series, is part of BMW's multibillion-euro effort to catch up to Tesla and other electric vehicle makers. The company has already begun overhauling its Main assembly plant in Munich to prepare for the production of Neue Klasse vehicles, which are scheduled to be launched from the end of 2025.

Frank Weber, BMW's chief technology officer, highlighted the significance of the Neue Klasse project, stating that it is the biggest investment in the company's history. He emphasized that the technology being used in the Neue Klasse vehicles is completely new in all areas, making it a major undertaking for BMW.
